Drug without Prescription:
Clindamycin is an antibiotic used to treat acne.
Although applied only to the skin, some of this medication could be absorbed into the bloodstream; and it has been known to cause severe--sometimes even fatal--colitis (an inflammation of the lower bowel) when taken internally. Symptoms, which can occur a few days, weeks, or months after beginning treatment with this drug, include severe diarrhea, severe abdominal cramps, and the possibility of the passage of blood.
Clindamycin is an antibiotic used to treat infections caused by bacteria.
Swallow clindamycin capsules whole (not crushed or chewed), with plenty of water.
Even if your condition has improved it is important to complete the prescribed course of clindamycin.
Oral contraceptives may be less effective while you are taking clindamycin and unplanned pregnancies are possible.
The most common side effects are itching, skin rashes and being or feeling sick. If you suffer from diarrhoea during treatment with clindamycin, it is best to inform your doctor straight away.
Clindamycin works by killing a wide range of bacteria that can cause infection.
Prescription is used for:
Take Clindamycin by mouth with or without food, usually 4 times a day (every 6 hours), or as directed by your doctor. Take it with a full glass of water (8 ounces or 240 milliliters) unless your doctor directs you otherwise. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking this drug. Antibiotics work best when the amount of drug in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, take this drug at evenly spaced intervals. Continue to take Clindamycin until the full-prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection. Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.
