Targocid Indications

Targocid is a medical product that is widely known as lyophilised teicoplanin. Targocid is actually an antibiotic that is able to fight against bactericidal, glycopeptide infectious disorders that are caused by the fermentation of Actinoplanes teicomyceticus. It has been established that a therapy with Targocid is effective in vitro against both anaerobic and aerobic bacteria that are included in the Gram-positive class.
The most common bacteria that effectively respond to a therapy with Targocid (Targocid) are included in the following species:
- Clostridium difficile;
- Coagulase negative staphylococci;
- Enterococci;
- Group JK Corynebacteria;
- Listeria monocytogenes;
- Micrococci;
- Peptococci;
- Staphylococcus aureus;
- Streptococci;

The most common bacteria that are known to be resistant to a therapy with Targocid usually belong to the following species:
- Nocardia asteroides;
- Leuconostoc;
- Lactobacillus;

All the bacteria that are Gram-negative are not sensible to a therapy with Targocid.
After being administered intramuscularly or intravenously, Targocid is widely spread in the tissues of the human organism. After this, Targocid is secreted into the plasma, where it will remain for another 80-90 hours. The excretion of Targocid takes place through urine. Unfortunately, the absorption of the oral forms of Targocid is not effective enough. Targocid is unable to penetrate the barriers that stop it from reaching the patient"s brain. A therapy with Targocid is widely prescribed to individuals who have been diagnosed with potentially severe infections with Gram-positive bacteria. Some infections that do not respond to the therapy with other anti-bacterial medicines may be eased with a treatment trial with Targocid. Patients who are suffering from the disorders that we list here could benefit from a therapy with Targocid:
- Endocarditis;
- Osteomyelitis;
- Peritonitis;
- Respiratory infections;
- Septicaemia;
- Skin infections;
- Soft tissue infections;
- Urinary tract infections;

Targocid Side Effects

After studying several patients who were following therapies with Targocid, physicians were able to build a list with the potential adverse reactions that Targocid can trigger. Among them, the most common were:
- Anaphylactic reactions;
- Bronchospasm;
- Erythema;
- Exanthema;
- Fever;
- Occasional allergic reaction of medium severity;
- Pruritus;

Other patients complained of abscess formation, phlebitis or pain at the site of the Targocid injection.
