Cefoxitin indications
Cefoxitin is prescribed to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. Cefoxitin is an antibiotic that works
by stopping the growth of bacteria. Cefoxitin only treats bacterial infections. It will not work for viral
infections (e.g., common cold, flu). Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.
Cefoxitin Side effects
The common side-efects are:
- Blurred vision;
- Diarrhea;
- Dizziness;
- Headache;
- Nausea;
- Redness/discomfort/pain/swelling at the injection site;
- Vomiting
may occur.
If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Remember that your doctor has
prescribed Cefoxitin because the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people
using Cefoxitin do not have serious side effects. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but
serious side effects occur:
- Confusion;
- Easy bruising/bleeding;
- Fast/irregular heartbeat;
- Ringing in the ears;
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur:
- Chest pain;
- Dark urine;
- Persistent nausea or vomiting;
- Persistent signs of infection (eg fever sore throat);
- Seizures;
- Severe stomach/abdominal pain;
- Unusual fatigue;
- Yellowing eyes or skin;
Cefoxitin may rarely cause a severe intestinal condition (Pseudomembranous colitis) due to resistant bacteria. This condition
may occur while receiving therapy or even weeks after treatment has stopped. Do not use anti-diarrhea products or narcotic
pain medications if you have the following symptoms because these products may make them worse.
